Yraceburu, Joe
Joe Yraceburu was born in Uris, Navarra, Spain, on February 21, 1880, to parents Joseph Yraceburu and his wife. After attending public schools until age fourteen, he worked driving a team for his father, a farmer and wine merchant, before immigrating to America in 1900. He arrived in Coalinga, California, on November 6, 1900, where he worked as a ranch hand and stock foreman until saving enough capital to enter the livestock business.
In Fresno County and surrounding areas, Joe built a prosperous career as a stockman and farmer, raising Merino and Shropshire sheep at Cantua and leasing land for large-scale grain production. Alongside his partners, including his brother Santos and M. Urrutia, he cultivated thousands of acres of barley, wheat, and rye across Mendota, San Benito County, and Madera County. He married Frances Erro in Fresno in 1906, and together they raised six children: Mary, Manuelita, Helena, Manuel, Elisa, and Joe. A patriotic Republican and member of the Eagles, Joe passed away on November 10, 1918, leaving behind a lasting agricultural legacy managed by his widow and brothers.
