Wilson, Eugene
Eugene Wilson was born in Ash Flat, Sharp County, Arkansas, on December 22, 1875, to Reuben Jasper Wilson and Hannah Johnson. His father first traveled to California in 1851 to mine gold before permanently relocating the family to Fresno County in 1884. Raised in Oleander, Eugene attended local grammar schools, Easton High School, and Stockton College before settling in the Laguna de Tache region in 1906.
On his twenty-acre ranch on Mount Whitney Avenue near Laton, Eugene engaged in dairying, livestock raising, and agricultural experimentation with cotton and cucumbers. He married Mollie Johnson in Hanford in 1900, and together they raised six children: Vernon, Vaudine, Marguerite, Laura Belle, Woodrow, and William. A dedicated and public-spirited citizen, he actively supported civic improvement and good citizenship across Laton and the broader county.
