Weaver, Willis D.
Willis D. Weaver was born in Redwood City, California, on March 23, 1868, to parents Jacob Weaver and Nancy Squires Weaver. Educated in the Fresno public schools, he initially worked in his brother John F. Weaver hardware store before entering the fruit packing business in 1893 with the Cutting Fruit Packing Company. Over the years, he represented several major organizations, including the Golden West Fruit Packing Company, the Fresno Home Packing Company, the J. K. Armsby Company, and the California Packing Corporation, eventually becoming the highest salaried fruit buyer in the San Joaquin Valley.
Beyond his commercial endeavors, Willis was active in public affairs, serving on the Republican County Central Committee from 1896 to 1902 and on the Fresno Horticultural Committee from 1000 to 1902. He married Tennessee native May Osborn on August 6, 1893, and together they raised three children: Landis O., Helen Estelle, and Esther Leah. A member of the Elks and the Odd Fellows, his dedicated career as a pioneer fruit buyer and community servant played a significant role in advancing the agricultural resources of Fresno County.
