Vignola, Angelo
Guy R. Vignola, born in Buchanan, California, on June 11, 1884, was a native son and dedicated promoter of Fresno County. He was raised on the family home ranch in Buchanan and educated in Raymond before completing a college course in San Francisco. After gaining early experience in the butcher trade at Raymond and in journalism at Fresno, he co-founded the Fresno Daily Abstract with W. W. Watson. In 1908, he launched his real estate career in Fresno, specializing in large ranch properties and leveraging his lifelong knowledge of local land values to drive regional development.
His father, Angelo Vignola, was a notable Fresno County pioneer who immigrated to New York at age five before crossing the plains to California in the early 1850s. Angelo initially mined for gold in Mariposa County before settling in Fresno County, where he prospered as a miner, storekeeper, sheep raiser, and extensive ranch owner near Buchanan. Together with his wife, Margaret Lovaroni, Angelo raised eleven children, including Emile, John, Julius, Caesar, Frank, Guy, Juliet, and four daughters who married into the Wright, Lockton, Hanby, and Holland families. Following Angelo death in 1906, his legacy was carried forward by Guy, who continued to enhance the family impact through his real estate and civic contributions until his own career flourished in Fresno.
