Traber, Charles H., M.D.
Charles H. Traber, M.D., was born in Mendocino County, California, on January 4, 1874, to parents John W. Traber and Anna Kane. Reared on his father ranch and educated in the public schools of Fresno County, he taught school in the region for ten years while aspiring to become a physician. He traveled to Alaska from 1898 until 1902 in pursuit of funds for medical school, and upon returning to Fresno County, he resumed teaching to save every dollar he could.
In 1913, Charles entered the Chicago College of Medicine and Surgery, graduating four years later with his M.D. degree before opening his medical practice in Reedley. Married in 1910 to Clara Brose, daughter of Samuel Brose, he became the father of a daughter named Marjorie. A self-made man and former deputy in the Fresno superintendent of schools office, he actively served his community through the Knights of Pythias and local medical societies.
