Telin, C.
C. Telin was born in Sweden on June 3, 1854, where he attended local common schools and served seven years in the Swedish Army before immigrating to America in 1883. After working in San Francisco and Mendocino County, he moved to Washington Colony in Fresno County in 1889, where the local climate helped him fully recover from severe asthma. His early family life included his first wife, Jennie Matilda Volleen, and later his second wife, Annie Person, with whom he raised his surviving children, Moody and Jennie.
In Fresno County, Telin became a steadily successful ranchman and the long-time agent for George C. Roeding’s Fancher Creek Nurseries. After selling an initial tract at Easton, he established a highly developed forty-acre ranch on Grand Avenue near Kingsburg, planting extensive orchards of peaches, apricots, plums, and vines. A dedicated member of the Swedish Methodist Episcopal Church and several regional fruit growers associations, he built a prosperous life while actively contributing to the agricultural growth of his community.
