Stump, Allen Everett
Allen Everett Stump, born in Iowa in 1869, was a prosperous viticulturist who became one of the most substantial citizens of Fresno County, California. He was the son of Jeremiah P. Stump, a native of Ohio, and Elmira McCloskey, a native of Pennsylvania. Reared in Iowa until twelve years of age, he moved west with his parents and siblings in 1881 to settle permanently in Fresno County. He completed his education in the local public schools while growing up on his family ranch in the expanding agricultural region.
Having resided in Fresno County since March 18, 1881, A. E. Stump devoted his life to mastering scientific grape production and ranching. In 1904, he established his home on a forty-acre ranch located one mile northeast of Parlier, where he personally planted all the trees and vines. He specialized strictly in raisin grapes, earning up to $6,200 in a single season, and married Miss Emma Zediker on May 10, 1898. As a member of the original raisin association, his untiring energy and dedicated efforts established him as a key contributor to local agricultural history.
