Sorensen, Christian
Christian Sorensen, born near Randers, Jutland, Denmark, on December 10, 1865, was the third of six children born to Soren and Christine Sorensen. Reared in Denmark, he worked out by the month on local farms where he gained valuable experience in stock raising, dairying, and general farming. Eager to join his older brothers N. P. and Soren who were already living in California, he sailed from Copenhagen aboard the ship Thingvalla in January 1893. Upon arriving in Fresno County, he initially secured employment working on farms throughout the Fresno Colony for several years. In 1900, he rented a farm near Sultana, which he purchased three years later and expanded to thirty acres before eventually selling it to buy twenty acres southwest of Parlier.
On March 2, 1909, Mr. Sorensen married Christine Christensen, a fellow native of Denmark who had moved to Fresno County as a young lady. Their union was blessed with four children, named Holger, Einar, Alfred, and Ellen, who was born on May 19, 1918. Beyond his agricultural pursuits, Mr. Sorensen was an active and prominent member of both the Danish Lutheran Church and the Danish Brotherhood. Politically, he supported the Republican party while building a respected life alongside his family and community. Together, he and his wife earned the warm esteem and friendship of their neighbors throughout their time in Fresno County.
