Serimian, A. S.
A.S. Serimian, born in Armenia in 1872, was an enterprising ranchman and general fruit grower who established his agricultural career in Fresno County, California. He grew up in his native country where his father owned a small vineyard, learning the basics of fruit cultivation from a young age. While still in Armenia, he married Mary Mardarosian, and together they had four children named Martin, Leon, Manuel, and Sarkis. The entire family was raised in the Gregorian or Greek Church, where the children received their early education.
In 1908, Mr. Serimian immigrated with his family to America and settled near Selma. He began his local farming operations by purchasing seventeen acres, later expanding his holdings with additional land acquisitions in 1914 and 1917. He eventually built a splendid tract of ninety acres located five miles east of Selma, planting extensive acreage in Thompson seedless and Muscat grapes alongside peaches, apricots, and prunes. He and his wife became known for their warm hospitality and active participation in local efforts to raise the moral tone of the community.
