Selma National Bank
The Selma National Bank and the Farmers Savings Bank of Selma served as vital allied financial institutions that helped place business on a solid foundation in Selma, California. Established on January 2, 1913, the younger Selma National Bank operated alongside the Farmers Savings Bank within the same office building under a single shared team of directors and officers. These leaders included President W. T. Forkner, Vice President Edward Poulson, Cashier C. W. Christensen, Assistant Cashier Milton Allison, and additional directors Scott Manlove, E. S. Hobler, H. S. Hulbert, and Dr. F. H. Williams. Located centrally, the twin institutions offered roomy space, beautiful furniture, ample vaults, and gentlemanly attention to win the trust of local patrons.
Under this efficient management, the allied banks rapidly gained volume and provided every accommodation consistent with sound finance to aid the community. The institutions were of great assistance in managing the heavy transactions of the celebrated fruit section surrounding the city. Together, the two banks operated with a combined working capital of $100,000, combined deposits of $600,000, and combined resources reaching $750,000. Through their reliable operations and the personal integrity of their officers, the Selma National Bank and Farmers Savings Bank became central to the economic growth of early Selma.
