Schwabenland, Alexander P.
A. P. Schwabenland, born in Straub, Russia, on January 7, 1878, was a dedicated farmer and skilled worker who built a prosperous life in Fresno County, California. Raised on a farm by his parents, Peter and Helen Schwabenland, he was educated in local public schools before marrying Katie Roth on May 13, 1897. In November 1898, the couple immigrated to Fresno, where A. P. helped build the Fresno Brewing Company and eventually served as foreman of the cellars and cold storage department from 1900 until 1918. Through his steady work, he supported a family that included children Roy Alex, Emma, Elsie, Pauline Theresa, and Frieda Helen. His initial years in California reflected the industrious spirit of early European immigrants establishing themselves in the region.
Alongside his career at the brewery, Schwabenland actively invested in local real estate by building and selling three residences in Fresno. In 1915, he purchased a twenty-acre ranch on Shaw Avenue in Vinland Colony, which he developed into a peach orchard and Thompson seedless vineyards. After resigning from his brewing position in November 1918, he focused his energy entirely on his successful ranching operations. He became a member and stockholder in the California Peach Growers, Inc., and joined the California Associated Raisin Company to support the local agricultural economy. Additionally, he engaged in community affairs as a member of the Lutheran faith, a supporter of the Democratic party, and a member of Fresno Aerie No. 39, F. O. E.
