Scholler, Louis
Louis Scholler, born in Bavaria, Germany, on October 4, 1864, was a progressive and popular man of affairs who identified closely with the growth of Fresno. He attended school in his native country and learned to read English before immigrating to the United States in 1883 to seek better opportunities. Upon arriving, he went directly to San Francisco, California, where he engaged in the manufacture of soap and toilet waters. He later traveled to British Columbia under contract with the British Columbia Soap Works to manufacture soap for that business concern.
In 1889, Mr. Scholler arrived in Fresno and became highly active in the business and agricultural development of Central California. He owned a twenty-two-acre orange grove at Lemon Cove and a 120-acre dairy and stock ranch located six miles west of Fresno. Additionally, he partnered with O. L. Everts and D. S. Ewing to build and own a modern brick garage on the corner of Stanislaus and I Streets. As a public-spirited citizen, he supported community interests through his membership in the Fresno Chamber of Commerce, the Commercial Club, and the Fresno Lodge Number 439, B. P. O. Elks.
