Russell, Mr. and Mrs. H. W.
H. W. Russell, born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on January 15, 1866, moved to California in 1869 with his parents, George C. and Mary L. Russell. His family eventually relocated from San Jose to the Mendocino district of Fresno County in March 1879, where his father improved 160 acres of government land. His wife, Iambie A. Carr, was born in Milton, Iowa, and was the daughter of prominent Fresno County pioneer T. W. Carr and Helen McClosky. She came to California at seven years of age, graduated in the first class of Selma High School in 1885, attended the San Jose Normal school, and taught school for four years in Fresno and Tulare counties.
The couple was married at Lompoc on April 8, 1891, and lived at various places along the coast before moving to Dinuba in 1906, where Mr. Russell improved a seventy-acre ranch. They returned to Fresno County in 1913 so he could improve a ranch at Sanger, and eventually relocated to Fresno in November 1918. Together, they raised five children named H. Warren, Ila H., Ralph C., Elmer W., and Glen C. As dedicated residents of the region, they focused their faith as members of the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Fresno.
