Rohr, H. G.
H. G. Rohr, born in Germany on March 1, 1867, enjoyed the advantages of good elementary schools before immigrating to America when he was only sixteen years old. He early learned the trade of the sheet metal worker in New York City, masterfully adapting to the best American standards and becoming a highly demanded journeyman. Eighteen years prior to the writing of his biography, he moved to the Pacific Coast as a master mechanic. He then established the Nevada Sheet Metal Works at Reno, Nevada, which became the very first cornice manufacturing works in that state and grew to large proportions under his nine years of ownership.
Attracted by local building expansion, Mr. Rohr moved to Fresno in 1917 to establish the Standard Sheet Metal Works at 2524 Tulare Street. He moved into his regular place of business in June 1917, installing the most up to date machinery and steadily employing several skilled workmen to meet complex architectural demands. Through his dedication to high workmanship, his business advanced to the front rank among local competitors and became the leader in its line in Fresno. Beyond his industrial achievements, he earned high esteem as a patriotic citizen who supported his community and frequently performed deeds of kindness as a neighbor.
