Puckhaber, Charles R.
Charles R. Puckhaber was born in San Francisco in December 1871 to John Puckhaber, a pioneer merchant who arrived in California via Panama during the 1850s. After completing his education in public schools and business college, he began his career at L. Feldmann & Co. at sixteen, eventually rising to head bookkeeper before moving to Fresno in the fall of 1897. He married Emily Worsdale in San Francisco in June 1895 and built a prominent local life aligned with the Republican party, the Masons, the Elks, and local country clubs.
In Fresno, Puckhaber expanded his enterprise into financial leadership by helping organize the Union National Bank of Fresno in 1906, serving as its Vice-President and Director. He also co-founded the Fresno Savings Bank, serving as its Vice-President and Director to foster community growth and savings across the San Joaquin Valley. Through strategic real estate and banking investments, he established himself as a prominent civic leader and executive instrumental to Fresno’s commercial development.
