Porter, George E., D.C.
George E. Porter was born in Portage County, Ohio, on June 21, 1885, as the son of a local miller. He attended public schools near his family farm and graduated from Alliance High School before spending seven years working in the sales department of the Morgan Engineering Company in Alliance. Pursuing a new career in healthcare, he studied chiropractic science and graduated from the Universal College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in June 1912. Shortly after graduation in July 1912, he relocated to Fresno, California, where he established a successful practice, joined the Federated Chiropractic Association of California, and earned a license from the State Medical Board.
On June 17, 1908, Porter married Pennsylvania native Willa B. Marshall in Warren, Ohio, and the couple later became active members of the First Methodist Church in Fresno. Beyond his professional practice, he participated in local civic life, serving as physician for the Stags of Fresno and achieving the rank of Thirty-second degree Mason within Fresno Lodge, No. 247, F. & A. M. He was also a Past Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias, where he received a jewel from members in recognition of his service to the order. His career in Fresno reflects both his rapid professional growth as a chiropractor and his broad engagement in community organizations.
