Pearson, Emil
Emil Pearson was born in Sweden on April 1, 1864, to parents Per Nilson and Brita Eglund Nilson, and worked as a farmer before immigrating to Kingsburg, California, in 1892. Starting with only sixty-five dollars during a period of financial stringency, he worked as a traveling farm laborer until purchasing his original ten-acre unimproved property in 1895. Over the next twenty-five years, he developed this home place alongside an additional ten-acre parcel into a successful horticulture and viticulture operation located one and a half miles northeast of Kingsburg.
In April 1898, Pearson married Swedish native Lena Lindholm, the daughter of Erik Person and Johanna Johnson Person, who had previously worked in Berkeley and San Francisco. The couple settled in the Kingsburg school district and raised two sons, David and Paul, while establishing deep roots within the local community. A dedicated member of the Swedish Baptist Church, Pearson maintained strong family ties alongside his surviving local relatives, including his sisters Annie Chelgren, Maria Bergrooth, and Jennie Martin.
