Nordstrom, Rev. Magnus Anders
Rev. Magnus Anders Nordstrom was born on June 7, 1856, in Vermland, Sweden, to Anders and Anna Anderson. After studying at the Oerebro Mission School, Westeras, and Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, he was ordained in Chicago in 1887. He served as a pastor and missionary in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Minnesota, where he built multiple churches and organized numerous congregations. Married in New York City on October 10, 1889, to Hildur Runstedt, he had two daughters, Magnhild and Lillie Hildur.
Seeking a milder climate, Nordstrom moved to Fresno County, California, in 1903, where he founded Vinland, organized its first school district, and established its Swedish Lutheran Church. Over the years, he developed a ranch on Madera and Shaw Avenues while serving congregations across California, including Riverside, Turlock, Berea, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. He eventually returned to Vinland as the permanent pastor of the church he built, where he lived on his ranch with his family while serving as a prominent leader in the California Conference.
