Nisewanger, J. Franklin
J. Franklin Nisewanger was born near Macedonia, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, on May 5, 1877, to parents Jacob Nisewanger and Sarah Woods. After attending public schools in Iowa and high school in Diller, Nebraska, he graduated from the Normal school in Fremont, Nebraska, and taught public school for four years. On November 15, 1903, he married Miss Dora Ross in Little Sioux, Iowa, before the couple moved west to California in 1805, settling initially at Dos Palos to farm and operate a harness business.
In 1910, Mr. Nisewanger became a pioneer landowner in Tranquillity, Fresno County, where he eventually developed 127 acres with alfalfa, artesian wells, and reservoirs. Alongside farming and serving as a school district trustee, he partnered with A. R. Johnson in a successful well-drilling business that completed dozens of deep artesian wells using modern rotary equipment. He and his wife raised three children, Loreen, Carrol, and Arthur, establishing themselves as prominent citizens in the growth and agricultural expansion of Tranquillity.
