Myer, Isaac
Judge Isaac Myer was born in Thalfang, Rhenish Prussia, Germany, on June 5, 1850, to parents Leopold and Clara Levy Myer. After serving in the sanitary corps during the Franco-Prussian War, he immigrated to California and settled at Firebaugh, Fresno County, in 1875. He initially built a successful general merchandising and stock-raising enterprise on Big Penoche before operating additional businesses in Seattle, San Benito County, Fresno, and Mendota.
In Mendota and Firebaugh, Judge Myer became a prominent civic leader, serving as Justice of the Peace, Firebaugh first City Recorder, and clerk of the local school board. Married in San Francisco to Ottilie Levy, who passed away on August 8, 1916, he raised four children: Amy, Irma Viola, Oscar L., and Albert Leo. An active Mason, Knight of Pythias, and B’nai B’rith leader, he contributed greatly to the business growth and community development of Fresno County until his later years.
