Moran, George P.
George P. Moran, born in San Francisco in 1874, was a progressive and influential rancher who helped develop the Riverside Colony in Fresno County. After working as a postal clerk and grocer in his hometown, he moved to Fresno County in 1912 to manage ranch lands owned by his wife, Elizabeth Stanton, whom he married in 1907. He operated a sixty-acre farm in the Riverside Colony and a quarter section in the River Bend Colony, planting both with vines and fruit trees using modern, scientific methods. Alongside his wife, with whom he raised three children named George, Joyce, and Ruth, he earned a reputation as a highly respected and painstaking rancher.
M. E. Stanton was an early pioneer of Visalia who worked in the boot and shoe business in Tulare County before settling in Fresno County in 1885. He originally settled the farm that later became part of the Moran agricultural operations. He married Margaret McCarty, and together they raised two children, Elizabeth and Richard, before both parents passed away in 1902. Remembered for his sterling character and contributions as an early pioneer, his land holdings remained in the family and laid the foundation for the successful farming enterprise later run by his daughter and son-in-law.
