Metzler, Adam
Adam Metzler was born on June 26, 1881, in Bobofski, Samara, Russia, to farmers Peter and Marie Rudolph Metzler. He was raised on the family farm, attended local public schools, and farmed alongside his father until his marriage. On November 22, 1907, he married Marie Quisnar, the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth Riechert Quisnar. Leaving Russia behind, the couple immigrated to Fresno, California, in 1908, where he worked for the California Produce Company and rose to the rank of foreman.
In 1912, Metzler purchased a twenty-acre ranch in the Biola district, built a residence and barns, and planted Thompson seedless vineyards and alfalfa. He and his wife raised six children, named Elizabeth, Peter, Bertha, Henry, Marie, and Martha. The family attended Christ Lutheran Church in Fresno, where Metzler served as a trustee. He was also an active member of the California Associated Raisin Company.
