McLeod, William D.
Born in Ottawa, Canada, William D. McLeod completed a four-year pharmaceutical apprenticeship and graduated from the Ontario College of Pharmacy in 1898. Licensed across Canada and multiple U.S. states, he gained extensive professional experience managing and owning pharmacies in major cities, including New York City, Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Seattle, Tonopah, Nevada, and Nome, Alaska. Following financial setbacks during the 1907 panic in Nevada, McLeod maintained strong commercial credit and continued his career in retail pharmacy across the West Coast.
In 1915, McLeod relocated to Kingsburg, Fresno County, purchasing and operating the Rexall Drug Store as proprietor. He expanded the central establishment into a comprehensive retail business featuring prescription services, soda fountain refreshments, books, phonographs, and general supplies. Married in New York in 1906 to Anetta (Attinger) Finking, with whom he had one daughter, Louise, McLeod established a reputation as a prominent local booster and business leader in Kingsburg.
