Marshall, Edwin C.
Sons of Louis and Mary (Foree) Marshall, brothers Charles A. and Edwin C. Marshall migrated from Ballard County, Kentucky, to Fresno County in 1886 alongside their brother Albert R. Marshall. Purchasing thirty-five acres of raw land at Centerville, the brothers initially operated a successful nursery enterprise before converting the property into productive vineyards and orange groves equipped with dual irrigation and pumping systems. Their mother joined them in California in 1889, residing on the family ranch until her death in 1910, alongside a large extended family residing across the state.
While Edwin C. Marshall managed the Centerville ranch and served as a Fresno County horticultural commissioner, Charles A. Marshall entered the fruit shipping business in 1914, partnering with B. W. Shepherd to buy green fruit in the Sanger district for eastern markets. Charles married Caroline (Dickson) Dodd of Humboldt County in 1917 and established a home in Fresno, while Edwin resided on the Centerville property with his wife, Mary (Lockhart) Marshall. Both brothers established reputations as leading agriculturalists, active civic boosters, and pioneer developers of the Centerville region.
