Marriott, George Clyde
George Clyde Marriott was born on November 26, 1873, in Van Buren County, Iowa, to parents William S. Marriott and Lizzie Alfrey Marriott. After marrying Hannah S. De Hart, daughter of Albert De Hart, at age twenty-five, he farmed in Iowa, Oklahoma, and Nebraska before permanently settling in California on September 1, 1907. He established himself as an influential rancher in the Laguna de Tache region, improving and selling a thirty-acre ranch near Laton, operating the Elisha Harlan Ranch, and purchasing an eighty-acre ranch north of Linn station in January 1919.
Together with his wife Hannah, Marriott raised three surviving children named Albert Blaine, Ivan O’Keith, and Loretta May, while their fourth child, Juniata, passed away in California. A supporter of the Republican Party, he and his family maintained active membership in the Church of the Brethren. Through his extensive agricultural work and business ventures, Marriott built a strong reputation as a successful and prominent rancher within Fresno County.
