Lowther, Ross B.
Ross B. Lowther was born in West Virginia on February 26, 1886, to W. W. Lowther and Josephine Freeman Williams. Moving to Fresno County, California, at seven years old, he grew up near Trimmer Springs alongside his twin brother Lee B. Lowther and half brother Starr B. Williams. He spent his early years working on foothill ranches, where his frugality enabled him to build a small cattle herd of his own.
After moving to the Lone Star District in Fresno County, Ross purchased a twenty-acre vineyard with his half brother before selling his share to buy his current twenty-five-acre ranch. Through careful management and hard work, he paid off his property debt and established a comfortable home and productive vineyard. He married Maude Mercer, daughter of local resident W. H. Mercer, in Malaga, and together they built a prosperous life in the community.
