Laisne, Dr. Eugene W.
Dr. Eugene W. Laisne was an exceptionally gifted optometrist and inventor who built a prominent professional practice in Fresno, California. After obtaining extensive optical training in New York City and other leading Eastern cities, he moved to California in 1909 and graduated from the Los Angeles College of Optometry and Ophthalmology. He established his practice in Fresno in 1910 within the Republican Building, where he later occupied the former offices of Dr. Rowell starting in 1912.
Driven by growing demand, Dr. Laisne relocated his practice in May 1918 to an expanded location at 1054 J Street, next to the Bank and Trust Company of Central California. His work was widely recognized for diagnosing visual conditions and relieving related nervous and organic disorders through precise correcting lenses. Through his mechanical skill, philosophical insight, and thorough treatment of thousands of patients, he established a statewide reputation as one of California’s leading eye specialists.
