Klein, Sandor
Born in Beregszasz, Hungary, in 1883, Sandor Klein was trained as a cabinetmaker in his native country before emigrating to the United States in 1901. After working at his trade in New York City, St. Louis, and San Francisco—where he advanced to carpenter foreman and building contractor—Klein relocated to Fresno County in 1910 to homestead 160 acres in the Huron district.
Klein developed his property into an extensive agricultural enterprise, installing an irrigation pumping plant to cultivate alfalfa and specializing in commercial hog-raising. Expanding his operations to 480 acres of owned land alongside 1,500 acres of leased grain land, he became a naturalized United States citizen in San Francisco in 1913 and actively aligned himself with the Democratic Party in Fresno County.
