Jorgensen, Carl
Born in Holbeck, Sjelland, Denmark, in 1876, Carl Jorgensen emigrated to South Dakota as a youth before settling in Fresno in 1895. He initially learned blacksmithing, working at the trade for seven years before an injury prompted him to transition to carpentry, an occupation he followed in Fresno for nearly two decades. In 1899, he married Danish native Marie Seeberg, whose father, H. P. Seeberg, was a pioneer Fresno County farmer and one of the original organizers of the Danish Creamery Association.
In 1918, Jorgensen acquired a six-acre improved property on White’s Bridge Road near Fresno, cultivating alfalfa and maintaining a vineyard while continuing his carpentry work. Deeply involved in local fraternal life, he served four terms as president of the Dania Lodge, represented the organization at state conventions, and held active membership in Fresno Lodge No. 186, I.O.O.F., as well as the California Associated Raisin Company. He and his wife raised two children, Ella A. and William, establishing themselves as prominent and respected figures in Fresno’s Danish-American community.
