Huddleston, C. B.
Born in Harrison County, Missouri, in 1856, C. B. Huddleston overcame early childhood hardships and limited formal schooling through self-education and industrious farm labor. Following his marriage to Mary M. Reed, he farmed in Missouri until relocating to California in 1898, settling initially at Traver before establishing his home near Kingsburg. In 1903, he purchased his first parcel of land in the Eschol school district, which he developed into a prosperous forty-four-acre ranch devoted to peaches, Thompson Seedless grapes, and alfalfa.
Active in local civic and religious affairs, Huddleston served sixteen years on the board of education for the Eschol school district and was a committed member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Kingsburg. Together with his wife, he raised six children—John S., Gertrude, Myrtle, Iva, Claire Franklin, and Hugh—and built a lasting legacy as a self-made, public-spirited rancher and community leader in Fresno County.
