Hayhurst, Leonidas B.
Born in Carroll County, Arkansas, in 1878, Leonidas B. Hayhurst moved to Fresno County in 1886 with his widowed mother, Sarah Jane (Gibson) Hayhurst. He received his early education in Wildflower, Kingsburg, and Selma before studying law in Fresno, supporting his legal studies by working as a stenographer. He passed the bar examination and was admitted to practice in September 1900.
In 1902, Hayhurst associated with Judge M. K. Harris, forming the partnership of Harris and Hayhurst in 1912. The firm served as legal counsel for prominent local financial institutions, including the Bank and Trust Company of Fresno, the Commercial Bank of Sanger, and the First National Bank of Parlier. Married to Fresno County native Cecil C. Burroughs, Hayhurst maintained an active interest in local undeveloped land while establishing a strong reputation for his thoroughness and integrity in private practice.
