Haycraft, Charles S.
Born in Lewis County, Missouri, in 1871, Charles S. Haycraft moved to Fresno County with his parents, E. R. and Amanda (Miller) Haycraft, in 1887. His father had previously been a 1849er gold miner on the Feather River before returning to Missouri to farm, eventually settling the family on a home property on Chestnut Avenue in Fresno. Charles completed his education in Missouri and California and later returned to Missouri to marry Edith Porter, the daughter of J. W. Porter of Malaga.
Establishing himself as a successful local producer, Haycraft operated two agricultural properties in Fresno County: a forty-acre home ranch near Fowler and a twenty-four-acre ranch on Chestnut Avenue. Deeply involved in regional agricultural and community organizations, he maintained active memberships in the California Associated Raisin Growers, the Peach Growers Association, the Woodmen of the World, and the Baptist Church in Malaga, earning a reputation as a principled and upright leader.
