Halemeier, August H.
August H. Halemeier, born in Germany in 1886, completed his early education in Westphalia before immigrating to California in 1901 to rejoin his pioneer parents in Fresno County’s Eggers Colony. After rapidly mastering English and graduating from business college, he thoroughly learned the viticulture trade while assisting his father. Following a brief sentimental return visit to his homeland in 1909, he permanently committed himself to California and married San Jose native Sophia Albrecht in 1912.
Through strategic land acquisitions and dedicated agricultural labor, Halemeier built an impressive 120-acre estate, personally planting fifty acres of vineyards with a direct shipping station at Locan. He and his wife raised three children on their home ranch, actively participating in the German Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee. Highly respected for his progressive farming methods, Halemeier became a strong, public-spirited supporter of local cooperative movements and the California Associated Raisin Company.
