Guernsey, Geo. P.
George P. Guernsey, born in Missouri in 1868, rented a farm at age nineteen and built a successful grain and livestock career before migrating to California in 1913. After initially running a dairy on McKinley Avenue, he purchased a neglected, weed-covered forty-acre tract on California Avenue, eleven miles west of Fresno. Through meticulous labor, he cleared the property, engineered a vital irrigation ditch, and successfully transformed the raw land into a highly productive stock and dairy ranch.
In addition to expanding his diverse agricultural operations, Guernsey became a progressive stockholder in the celebrated Danish Creamery Association. Alongside his wife, Dee Fisher, and their five children, he established a hospitable home and extended his care to rear a nephew, Leon Bland, who became a prosperous regional rancher. Deeply devoted to his community, Guernsey served as a trustee for the Seventh Day Adventist school at Rolinda and earned widespread respect as an expert horseman and civic-minded citizen.
