Griffin, Wade
Griffin, Wade
Wade Griffin, born in Waxahachie, Texas, gained extensive experience on his father’s cotton farm before working in the bridge and building department of the Missouri Pacific Railway in Oklahoma. In 1905, he migrated to Fullerton, California, where he operated a successful concrete and cement contracting partnership specializing in pipelines and sidewalks. Relocating to Coalinga in 1908, he joined the Consolidated Water Company, where his technical aptitude quickly led to his 1909 promotion as the superintendent of the entire utility plant.
Under his efficient management, the company expanded its infrastructure to include five deep wells and a massive pumping plant capable of distributing over 3,500 barrels of water daily across the oil fields. Beyond his corporate duties, Griffin spent nine years actively agitating for regional infrastructure improvements, a civic crusade realized with the construction of the State Highway to Coalinga. A highly esteemed citizen, he maintained strong fraternal ties with both the Odd Fellows and the Eagles, remaining a popular leader dedicated to upbuilding the West Side.
