Greve, Harry Henry
Harry Henry Greve, born in Priest Valley in 1888 to pioneering parents, was raised on the family farm before embarking on an independent stock-raising career. At age twenty-one, he homesteaded 320 acres in Sunk Valley, Fresno County, which he successfully transformed into a productive cattle ranch. To further expand his livestock operations, he acquired an additional 160 acres on Salt Creek, where he established a permanent residence and operational headquarters.
In 1917, Greve married Missouri native Stella Penland, who had completed her education in the Fresno public schools after arriving in the county in 1906. Together they raised one daughter, Dorothy, while remaining close to Greve’s childhood home in Monterey County. A dedicated Republican voter and economic protectionist, Greve earned widespread respect throughout the region as a progressive stockman and an exemplary, civic-minded citizen.
