Grantham, Arthur B.
Arthur B. Grantham, born in Missouri in 1885, was raised in Oklahoma before migrating to Kingsburg, California, in 1905. The eldest son of Harvey Richard Grantham and Rowena Theodosia Lee—a relative of General Robert E. Lee—he built a successful career through his own unaided efforts. After arriving in Fresno County, he worked on local fruit ranches, spent two years with Miller & Lux on the Button Willow Ranch in Kern County, operated the River Bend Market in Kingsburg, and broke horses for two years.
Grantham later joined his brother-in-law, G. F. Craig, as a clerk at Craig’s General Merchandise Store in Lanare. Despite facing immense adversity, including a severe injury at Redondo Beach and a 2007 automobile accident in Fresno that left his right leg permanently broken, he persistently maintained his dedication to his work and community. A proud supporter of the home front during the Great War through the purchase of Liberty Bonds, Grantham remains highly respected throughout the Riverdale and Kingsburg districts for his resilient spirit.
