Glass, William
William Glass, born in New York City in 1860, completed his education at the Cooper Institute before migrating westward to California. In 1890, he relocated to Fresno County to assume the role of business manager for the Fresno Republican newspaper. Through his exceptional commercial foresight, he transformed the publication into a premier media outlet that championed the growth of the San Joaquin Valley.
Beyond journalism, Glass emerged as a central figure in organizing major regional agricultural cooperatives like the California Associated Raisin Company. He dedicated his immense energy to civic leadership, serving as president of the local Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the American Red Cross. Backed by his wife, Theresa McKittrick, and their two children, he earned widespread esteem as a foundational architect of Fresno’s modern community landscape.
