Giraud, Marius and Harry
Marius and Harry Giraud, born in France in 1865 and 1867 respectively, were raised learning the intricacies of viticulture on their father’s European vineyard. Marius immigrated to California in 1888, working for the railroad and municipal projects before establishing a successful vineyard pruning contract business. He was joined in December 1893 by his younger brother Harry, initiating a lifelong agricultural partnership in Fresno County.
Operating under the firm name of Giraud Bros., the siblings combined forces in the Helm Colony to build up a substantial agricultural footprint. They initially cultivated wine grapes across a twenty-acre tract before expanding their holdings with an additional forty-acre parcel of raw land. By successfully transforming this property into sixty acres of highly prized vineyard soil, they earned widespread respect as prominent local viticulturists.
