Gibbs, Albert Grant
A. G. Gibbs, born in Adams County, Illinois, in 1868, spent his adolescence in San Francisco before migrating to Fresno County with his family in 1888. After initially renting land, he purchased a forty-acre tract located southwest of Lone Star and personally cultivated it into a premium, highly productive vineyard. His agricultural success allowed him to construct an attractive family bungalow in 1908 and later expand his real estate holdings by jointly purchasing an eighty-acre property near Raisin City with his brother-in-law.
Through indomitable energy and a strict code of thrift, Gibbs rose from modest circumstances to become a highly respected and well-to-do viticulturist. He shares his successful life with his Iowa-born wife, Lillie Frances Armstrong, whom he married in 1896, and their son, Roy Harold, who attends Fresno High School. No less deserving of praise for their achievements than her husband, Mrs. Gibbs assists in maintaining their esteemed position within the community, where Mr. Gibbs is an active member of the California Raisin Growers Association.
