Gerringer, Christoph
Christoph Geringer, born near the Volga region of Russia in 1877, trained as a master cabinetmaker before migrating to the United States with his wife, Annie Elizabeth Rudolf. Arriving in Fresno in May 1902, he initially sustained his family by working for the railroad, laboring in brickyards, and performing various seasonal agricultural jobs. His industriousness eventually allowed him to enter independent farming in 1907 when he purchased and successfully developed a thirty-acre vineyard east of Fresno.
After selling his first agricultural property at a profit, Geringer relocated to the Barstow Colony in late 1917 and acquired a fresh forty-acre tract of land. On this new homestead, he focused his efforts on cultivating premium Thompson seedless grapes and constructed a modern family residence in 1918. Deeply invested in his adopted country, he actively supports regional grower cooperatives like the California Associated Raisin Company while raising his daughter and niece.
