Gattie, John
John Gattie, born in the province of Naples in 1866, immigrated to California as a fifteen-year-old lad to join his brother in Stockton. After seven years of rigorous ranch work and driving big teams, he relocated to Fresno County, where he gained valuable experience working in local vineyards for six years. He eventually began investing in regional real estate, developing and selling multiple vineyard properties before establishing his permanent forty-acre homestead dedicated to grapes and alfalfa.
Gattie expanded his viticultural operations by purchasing an additional twenty acres in the Helm tract, where he successfully grows table and raisin grapes. As a progressive agriculturist, he maintains active membership in the California Associated Raisin Company and consistently champions local grower associations. He shares his successful California life with his wife, Carmilla Perfetto, with whom he has raised eleven children while remaining a loyal and community-minded citizen.
