Garcia, Antone
Antone Garcia was a prominent Spanish-born agricultural executive who rose to become the superintendent of the Helm division for the major agribusiness enterprise Miller & Lux. Born in the Province of Coruna, Spain, in 1887, he immigrated to California at just thirteen years old alongside his uncle and immediately entered the employ of Miller & Lux in Kern County. Demonstrating immense ambition, he worked on regional ranches while simultaneously attending night school for over two years, quickly climbing the ranks to become a ranch foreman by the age of nineteen.
In 1916, following years of dedicated service, Garcia was promoted to superintendent, establishing his headquarters at the Helm ranch near Mendota and taking direct charge of seven distinct properties stretching from Kerman to Oxalis. Recognized as one of the company’s most seasoned and qualified leaders, he managed these extensive holdings with strict, active supervision while successfully integrating into his adopted country as a naturalized citizen and a stanch Republican. Following the loss of his first wife, Kate Errecart, with whom he had three children, he married Olga Swenson, a cultured companion who actively supported his professional advancements.
