Foristiere, Antonio
Antonio Foristiere was a skilled Italian artisan and self-made entrepreneur born in Messina, Italy, in 1874. After serving four years in the Italian navy and working as a barber in Boston and Fresno, he shifted his focus to manufacturing in 1911. He purchased land at the corner of Belmont and First Street in Fresno to build a modern three-story factory, establishing the San Joaquin Paste Company.
Under Foristiere’s direction, the factory specialized in over fifty varieties of high-quality macaroni and vermicelli. He prioritized modern sanitation, utilizing automated mixing machinery and sterile packaging to create the widely respected “San Joaquin Brand” of pure paste. A successful real estate investor in the Arlington Heights district, he built multiple local homes while raising two children with his wife, Josephine.
