Flint, T. H.
T. H. Flint was an innovative and resourceful agriculturist born in Missouri in 1865. After living and farming in Nebraska and Kansas, he followed his parents to California in 1897, initially working near Selma as a teamster and corn farmer. In 1900, he relocated to a heavily neglected 120-acre property overrun with Johnson grass near Del Rey.
Through painstaking labor, Flint completely transformed the land into a Central California showplace, establishing highly productive orchards and vineyards of Thompson Seedless grapes, Muscat grapes, peaches, prunes, and plums. He became a regional pioneer in creative farming techniques, successfully developing a novel method to cultivate alfalfa directly among his fruit trees to support livestock and maximize fertilizer production. Alongside his wife and eight children, Flint remained a dedicated community member and active supporter of the Christian Church in Fowler.
