First National Bank of Fowler
The First National Bank of Fowler was initially organized on August 25, 1904, to serve the town’s expanding financial interests. In 1913, a separate institution called the Fowler National Bank was established and constructed a beautiful two-story brick building. The two entities merged in 1914 when the Fowler National purchased the First National stock, consolidating operations under the First National name.
By December 31, 1917, the solid institution reported balancing debits and credits totaling $688,918.75, backed by extensive loans and cash reserves. Led by president Fred Nelson and cashier L. J. Harriman, the bank safely managed over $568,000 in customer deposits. Supported by wealthy local stockholders, the officers dedicated their resources to promoting the growth and long-term security of Fowler’s patrons.
