James Patrick Fincher was an industrious agricultural leader born in Stanislaus County in 1864. After graduating from business college in 1885, he took charge of his family’s ranching interests in Fresno County. He married Nancy Ann Musick in 1888 and initially embarked on large-scale grain farming across thousands of leased acres.

In 1901, Fincher transitioned his focus to modern dairy operations, establishing a highly improved and well-stocked ranch at West Park. He later shifted his agricultural endeavors toward vineyard cultivation by transforming seventy-five inherited acres into a productive Muscat grape property. A dedicated community member, he supported regional fruit associations while residing comfortably with his family in the Fincher Colony.
