Joseph Fearon was a resilient English pioneer born in Lancashire in 1843. After working in British copper and iron mines, he immigrated to California with his wife in 1888. He quickly began working in the Coalinga coal mines and soon acquired valuable land claims.

Through homesteading and purchasing, Fearon developed hundreds of acres for farming and stock-raising. He eventually leased his property to prominent oil companies, which successfully developed multiple producing wells. Together, the couple raised eight children while actively supporting their local community and church.
