Eversoll, William
William Eversoll was born in Iowa in 1855, where he received early agricultural training on his family’s farm before briefly relocating to Arkansas. In July 1884, he immigrated to California and permanently established himself in Fresno County’s Burroughs Valley, becoming the region’s senior pioneer resident. He spent his initial years operating as a commercial teamster hauling supply lines to Sierra Nevada lumber mills, while systematically clearing and plowing the valley’s raw, uncultivated soil for large-scale grain production.
Eversoll systematically expanded his agricultural operations by securing a homestead preemption claim in 1886 and steadily purchasing adjoining tracts until he amassed a 760-acre estate. He transitioned into a prominent regional stockman, building a highly successful livestock enterprise focused on breeding cattle, mules, and specialized draft horses using pure-bred Kentucky Jacks and Percheron stallions. Deeply committed to the civic development of his adopted community, Eversoll also shaped local infrastructure by serving a multi-decade tenure as a school trustee and clerk for the Mountain View school district board.
