Edgerly, William A.
William A. Edgerly was born in Georgia in 1860, educated in Nebraska, and spent his early adulthood managing a mobile sheep-growing operation across Colorado, Kansas, and the Indian Territory. Moving to California in 1887, he partnered with his pioneer father to acquire and clear a massive raw acreage along Blackstone Avenue in Fresno County. Overcoming severe early market fluctuations, he successfully transitioned from livestock and grain farming into high-yield commercial fruit production.
Edgerly and his siblings systematically developed a 200-acre vineyard and orchard estate, establishing one of the oldest and most valuable agricultural properties in the county. Expanding his influence into the urban sector, he took the presidency of the Edgerly Company, Inc., overseeing the construction and management of several family-owned downtown business buildings. A forward-thinking leader, Edgerly further advanced regional economic stability through his early and steadfast membership in the California Associated Raisin Company.
